WHY USE NEUTRAL DENSITY FILTERS?

These filters reduce the amount of light passing through the camera lens without changing the color of the scene. They are especially useful in bright light conditions to help prevent overexposure. Neutral Density filters also allow proper exposure at a wider lens opening for reduced depth-of-field to highlight a key subject by making the foreground and/or background out of focus. ND’s are must have filters especially if you are thinking of doing more landscape and nature photography.

WHY USE UV PROTECTION FILTERS?

Let’s face it, accidents happen! In the world of photography, it is important to protect your camera and your investment. Tiffen Protection and UV Control filters offer you protection from dust, scratches, dirt, moisture, fingerprints, as well as absorb UV light. Film and video are more sensitive to UV light than our eyes are. This often shows up as a bluish cast in images, especially shots from high altitudes and long distances, particularity over water. Ultra Violet filters are available in a variety of UV absorption levels. These filters can be kept on your lens at all times.

WHY USE POLARIZERS?

Think of a Polarizer filter as Sunglasses for your camera.

Along with UV and ND filters, Polarizer filters are among the essential Digital SLR camera filters every photographer should have. Polarizing filters provide color and contrast enhancement. Reflected light often shows up as whitish glare that washes out color in an image.

A Polarizer filter corrects this problem producing deep, dramatically blue skies. It also removes glare from non-metallic surfaces, such as windows and water. Color saturation in general, especially outdoors, can be improved significantly by using polarizer filters.

WHY USE DRONE FILTERS?

Tiffen drone filters is the perfect all around kit for the aerial photographer/cinematographer. We created these filters in collaboration with the Tiffen Flight Team.

Designed for the aerial operator looking to slow down their shutter speed to achieve a more cinematic result. This kit is especially great for pilots who focus more on aerial video, as the ND’s will help achieve the lower shutter speeds needed for cinematic video. Polarizers guarantee ultra-low reflection rates and they have unmatched color fidelity.

WHY USE COLOR FX FILTERS?

Color FX Filters add a little something extra to your images, like an Enhancing filter for fall foliage. They transform an average scene into something spectacular. Whether it is enhancing certain details of a landscape, warming up skin tones, or adding a dramatic sky to your photo, Color FX filters provide you with the solution.

WHY USE SPECIAL FX FILTERS?

Tiffen manufactures a wide variety of Special FX filters to aid in the suspension of belief, creating Night Time from daylight, dense Fog or star patterns from specular light sources. Our Special FX filters can be combined together, because they are double threaded, so you can get creative and experiment with some pretty wild photographic effects straight out of the camera.

WHY USE DIFFUSION?

Diffusion filters have been helping cinematographers create their look for generations. These filters can be used for reducing blemishes and wrinkles on talent by reducing the resolution of the image. They can also be used for lifting contrast and also creating halation, or glowing effects to specular light sources in a scene. These filters have been a staple in Hollywood for generations and continue to help cinematographers create the look they want, in camera.

WHY USE DIOPTERS?

Close Up or Full Field Diopters are used to shorten the close focusing distance when using a fixed focal length, allowing the camera to focus closer to the subject. This is extremely useful for lenses, especially Anamorphic lenses do not have a close focusing distance.

WHY USE CONTRAST?

Controlling contrast is difficult in bright sunlit exteriors. Exposing for either highlights or shadows will leave the other severely under-or over-exposed. Tiffen was recognized with a Technical Achievement Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for the innovative design of this popular Motion Picture and TV filter. It uses the surrounding ambient light, not just light in the image area, to evenly lighten shadows throughout. Use it where contrast control is needed without any other effect on sharpness or highlight flare being apparent.

WHY USE IR CONTROL FILTERS?

When you want to either use or cut IR light from entering your image, Tiffen’s IR Control filters include individual Hot Mirrors, Full Spectrum IRND’s that cut Far Red, Near IR and a combination of Hot Mirror and Full Spectrum IRND that cut all Far Red and IR wavelengths. We also produce visible wavelength blockers as with the 87 filter which allows only IR through.
