In Honor of This Month's World Photography Day: Starting with the Influence of Photographic Feats

August 23, 2022

Tiffen pays homage to Renan Ozturk and Taylor Rees for their miraculous Moonwalk photograph—clearly worthy of being one of the world's greatest images.

Shots like this don't happen every day—even for adventurer filmmaker/photographers Renan Ozturk and Taylor Rees. An alpinist, Renan Ozturk's experience includes some of the steepest climbing challenges on the planet as well as documentary filmmaking and photojournalism covering everything from the freezing Himalayas to the African deserts of Chad. From their base in southwestern Colorado, their production company Expedition Studios specializes in remote, rugged locations. "We like to work small and light on top of mountains, at high altitudes and in extreme conditions,” explains Ozturk.

When they had the opportunity to partner with Sony to test a new camera, they were able to realize their long-awaited creative concept. After months of planning and multiple attempts at getting the precise allignment of nature, they traveled to Utah to capture an out-of-this-world slackline display. Professional perfomer, speaker, stunt/safety coordinator, Tandem BASE jumper, slackliner, and extreme sports athlete, Andy Lewis traversed a highline across a pair of desert towers. With will, luck, and patience the team artfully captured the scene, complete with the rising moon backdrop. To Ozturk it was "...some of the best shots of our lives."

Tiffen believes that challenging feats like this that inspires the creativity in all of us.
