WORKSHOP INFORMATION
We are proud to host the Steadicam Bronze Workshops with Tiffen Steadicam Designated & Approved Instructors.
This Bronze workshop will be facilitated by our Tiffen Steadicam Technical Center Representatives and our Tiffen Steadicam Designated and Approved Operating Instructors. This workshop will be run and directed by the acclaimed operator Tyson Galland, with valuable insights from the highly knowledgeable Bridger Eberhart.
Introduction
Steadicam® has become a widely utilized standard tool in the film and television industry; however, it necessitates training and practice to achieve quality results. Beyond being merely a stabilizer, it serves as a shooting system that can infuse a unique style into productions, which is often highly sought after by producers and directors. Furthermore, intricate moving scenes can be shot more efficiently and can enhance the drama by adding pace and depth to the visuals.
The Tiffen Steadicam Bronze Workshop offers a distinctive chance for aspiring operators to explore the use and application of Steadicam, with a focus on the lighter systems in the Steadicam product range. This workshop emphasizes hands-on experience, providing ample practical time for participants to wear and utilize the system.
Workshop Aims:
The aim of this training program is to provide the necessary skills and background for a working camera operator to make use of a lightweight Steadicam system to best effect and safely.
*In order to maintain the group flow of training and instruction, students and instructors eat lunch together both days. The cost of lunch is included in the cost of the workshop.
Training Approach and Topics:
The course approach is a combination of hands-on and instructor driven however always kept very practical and relevant.
On completion of the training program the participants will be able to:
- Assemble the Steadicam and fit camera and all accessories
- Understand the principles of operation of a Steadicam
- Balance the system correctly including dynamic balance
- Put on and adjust the operators vest for best fit
- Adjust the suspension arm for the camera weight
- Understand rest positions
- Start and stop smoothly
- Post pan sled
- Body pans sled
- Track shooting sideways
- Circle the subject
- Walk forward shoot back
- Switch forward and back
- Handle actor sitting and standing from a chair
- Tackle steps and stairs
- Handle corners and corridors to best advantage
- Change to low mode
- Understand blocking out a shot
- Have knowledge of working in adverse conditions
This is by no means an exhaustive list and there will be many other skills and techniques passed on during the course of the workshop.
