Christopher Ross, BSC ON SMOQUE FILTER

Tiffen raises a glass to The Day of the Jackal cinematographer Christopher Ross, BSC who received an Outstanding Cinematography for a Series (One Hour) 2025 Emmy nomination for “Episode One”. This honor comes hot the heels of Ross’ 2025 BAFTA TV Award Photography & Lighting for his much-accoladed Shōgun episode “Anjin.”

Ross recently joined us at Tiffen, Burbank to discuss his work on The Day of the Jackal and his use of Smoque filters to create the show’s distinctive vintage espionage aesthetic.

"I chose the Tiffen Smoque 1/4 and 1/8 filters to get more light interaction and add dimensionality. I like images that have the inherent chaos of the universe within. Given enough time and enough budget, you can make that in post, but I prefer the chaos of creating it on set. Every shot used a Smoque filter. For me, the Tiffen Smoque filters–particularly the 1/4–gives me just the right level of chaos for my photography.”
