What is it?
The Steadicam Steadimate-S system is what operators need to take their work to the next level when using handheld stabilizers like the DJI® Ronin-S or Zhiyun® Crane 2. The basic Steadimate-S system attaches a mechanical gimbal collar/yoke around the neck of the stabilizer and a weighted base system at the bottom of the post/handle. The gimbal allows the stabilizer to be operated smoothly and freely, while the adjustable weight base keeps the whole system just bottom heavy enough to operate in the manner of a traditional Steadicam. For operators who may want to pursue a career in Steadicam, this is an excellent place to begin.

Operators who already own a stabilizer arm with a 1/2” post and matching vest can purchase the Steadimate-S Gimbal and Base individually and work with their existing system. Other operators can purchase the A15 Kit or the A30 Kit and have a fully working system out of the box. (Handheld stabilizer purchased separately.)
 
The Steadimate-S A15 Kit includes the gimbal collar and weight base, but also comes with the Steadicam AERO vest and Steadicam A-15 arm. These are the same arm and vest used with our Steadicam AERO 15 and AERO 30 sleds. There are no compromises on quality and in the future operators can upgrade to an AERO sled separately without having to buy a new arm and vest. The A-15 arm can support a 15 lbs (6.8kg) payload, which includes the stabilizer of your choice, camera/lens combo, and any accessories. The arm can be fine-tuned without tools to balance exactly the weight it is carrying for peak performance.
 
The Steadimate-S A30 Kit also includes the gimbal and base, but upgrades to a Steadicam Zephyr Vest and Steadicam A-30 arm. The A-30 arm offers twice the payload, comfortably supporting 30 lbs (13.6kg), which the Zephyr vest is also designed to handle with ergonomic ease. A30 Kit users could upgrade later to an AERO 30 sled or a more dynamic Zephyr sled to increase their offerings and skills as an operator.

As an operator, the Steadimate-S system allows you wealth of advantages over basic operation of a single-handed stabilizer.

  • Your comfortable operating time will go from a few minutes to hours as all the weight is removed from your arms and transferred to your hips and torso.

  • Smooth panning has always been a challenge with handheld stabilizers. Now you can execute smooth manual pans that produce a much more natural motion to more accurately follow your subject without drawing attention to the operating.

  • While stabilizers do a great job of keeping the camera level and preventing accidental tilts up or down, the z-axis is left to the operator and often results in jerky movements when the camera moves. By using a stabilized spring arm the z-axis is also stabilized allowing fluid operating when walking, jogging, or even running similar to a full-size Steadicam system.

  • Safely operate in “Low Mode” with the camera inverted on the gimbal and still maintain correct weight distribution to your hips rather than your back for amazing follow shots and low angles.
