For travel or candids, in the home or studio, the Traverse TR684C-36 Carbon Fiber Tripod with Dual Locking Ball Head from Davis and Sanford is a versatile, lightweight support for DSLR, mirrorless, and point and shoot cameras.

This kit includes a carbon fiber set of legs and a dual-action ball head, which combine to weigh only 4 lb while supporting up to 18 lb. The 4-section twist-lock legs extend to a maximum height of 68" and can be lowered to a minimum height of 9.5". Additionally, each leg can be set to 3 separate leg angles for balancing the tripod on uneven surfaces. The legs utilize rubber feet that feature integrated metal spikes for securing the legs in sand, dirt, or snow. One leg features a cushioned foam grip and the center column includes a ballast hook for stabilizing the tripod with additional weight.

The included ball head has a dual-action design that features one lock for ball movement and a separate lock for pan. The head also features degree markings along the panning axis and an Arca-type quick release, with one included plate. A bubble level has also been added to the ball head for increased positioning accuracy.

For ease of transport, the tripod folds down to 19" and includes a carrying case. A short center column is also included to help facilitate low angle and macro shooting.

Big tripod at a moderate price.

This is a great medium weight, large carbon fiber tripod. With thick legs and the camera standing at eye hight, without the center shaft raised. (I'm 5'10") Used properly, this is an Excellent Buy. Came in a nice bag with a broken zipper right out of the shipping box. There was no short center column included as stated in the ad.

Excellent budget tripod!

I'd been searching for a new tripod for a while when I read about this one in Outdoor Photographer magazine. It had all the features I was looking for: it's sturdy, lightweight (just over 3 pounds), reasonably priced, extends from 9 inches to 6 feet, and it folds up small enough to fit in my backpack. You can switch between rubber and spiked feet for easy indoor and outdoor shooting, and it has a hook on the center column for you to weight the tripod down or hang accessories from. So far the only thing I don't love about this tripod is that folding it up can be a bit of a pain. It folds in on itself to make it as small as possible, but it takes a little work to get the legs to fold backward. Hopefully that will improve with use. That said, I'm pleased with my purchase in every other way. I would recommend this tripod to anyone who's serious about photography, and wants all the features of a professional tripod without the price!

Great value, good quality.

Great lightweight tripod! Sturdy and quick set up.

I wanted something that was light and could be carried easily on hikes

Looked at a lot of reviews before landing on this tripod. I wanted something that was light and could be carried easily on hikes. I have another Davis & Sanford which was quite a bit heavier and does not have the ballhead. Seems sturdy and durable so far. Haven't had any problems with the 1/4 twist legs. One thing I'm not as happy about as compared to the older D&S is the mounting plate. Firstly it's not a quick connect / release to the ballhead. Secondly, the other plate was flat and included additional threaded holes to receive other accessories which I used for an Altura strap plate. This tripod mount must go on top of the strap plate and the only connection point is the plate thumbscrew which doesn't give it a lot of surface area to bite into, so it will slip occasionally on the tripod. Not sure of the mounting features of other tripods, so I don't know if this is common or limited to this model.
