Elevate your Travel Photography.

We've compiled this list of tips & tricks as well as gear recommendations to help you create some of the world's greatest images.

Whether you’re just getting started or you’ve been shooting for years, we hope you’ll learn something new.

1.
Don't bring all your gear each day. Go explore with a single lens and stay focused on finding moments. Our Domke F5-XB shoulder bag can carry all of your essentials..

Image: A person walks through the frame in Central Park, NYC.
Camera Settings: 40mm F/3.2 1/100” 800ISO
2.
Get up early in the morning or stay late to shoot during twilight hours. Capture popular tourist attractions in great light without people. Use a Neutral Density filter to add motion blur to the scene.

Image: Stars sprinkle the sky above Venice Italy in the early morning.
Camera Settings: 16mm F/8 13” 400ISO
3.
Bring a lightweight tripod and a Neutral Density filter to add motion. Long exposures during the day are a great way to show movement and reduce crowds.

Image: A long exposure blurs cars in a rotary in Rotanda, Spain.
Camera Settings: 16mm F/14 1.3” 640ISO
4.
Use a telephoto lens for panoramas. Compress distances across cities and landscapes while capturing a wide view. Use the degree markings on our Davis & Sanford ball heads to ensure overlap between images.
A panoramic view of Venice Italy, shot from on top of a clock tower.
Camera Settings: 150mm F64 1.6” 50ISO x 3 row panorama
5.
Shoot skylines after sunset to capture a moody scene. Our Color Graduated Blue filter can help add spectacular blue colors to half of the image.

Image: A full moon rises behind the NYC skyline.
Camera Settings: 70mm F8 0.3” 1600ISO
6.
Don’t wait to shoot photos until you get off the plane. Get a window seat and shoot photos from 30,000 ft above Earth. Use our Circular Polarizer filter to cut glare from the window.

Image: The Amazon rainforest from above.
Camera Settings: 70mm F/10 1/1000” 200ISO
7.
Don’t be afraid of asking someone for a portrait. Capture the essence of a country’s culture by making a portrait. Use our Black Pro Mist filter to soften skin tones

Image: A dog and its owner, photographed in Iceland.
Camera Settings: 70mm F3.2 1/640” 1600ISO
8.
Have your camera gear ready at all times. Some photo opportunities don’t last forever. Use a medium sized bag, like the Domke F-803 to keep your camera gear safe and accessible for a moment’s notice.

Image: A bird rests on a rock temporarily in front of Cinque Terre, Italy.
Camera Settings: 16mm F/16 8” 50ISO
9.
Find a viewpoint high above your surroundings. Get breathtaking images on top of a mountain or skyscraper. We recommend our Davis & Sanford Traverse tripod because of its 68” extended height for that extra elevation.

Image: Looking towards Lower Manhattan from on top of the Rockefeller Center.
Camera Settings: 70mm F5.6 0.4” 1600ISO x 1 row panorama
10.
Use leading lines to fill your frame and direct attention to the subject. Wide angle lenses help exaggerate shapes, but make sure to use our Wide Angle Circular Polarizer filter to avoid unwanted vignetting

Camera Settings: 16mm F8 1/1000” 320ISO
