The Tiffen 49mm Smoque Filter is a unique diffusion filter that provides a smoky, hazy quality to your images, emulating the effects of a smoke or fog machine. This filter is ideal for use in situations where smoke could typically be encountered, but is not available or present. The 2 density provides more smoke effect than the 1, but less than the 3.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Produces hazy, smoky effect across image.
Emulates how a smoke or fog machine works.
Ideal for use in situations where smoke could occur, but isn't present.

If only I'd known...

This is working wonders coupled with my Lumix lenses on my GH4, GH3, and OM-D EM-1. I've been trying to get that slightly soft, diffused look I've seen in many others' work out of my Micro Four Thirds cameras. It can be done with older lenses (I can get it with my Canon FD glass, for instance) but I wanted the convenience of shooting with my new lenses that are made for these sensors. This filter really helps knock the harsh, digital looking edge off the image coming from these lenses. I expect I'll buy a couple more of these in different strengths to use on my other lenses. Great job Tiffen!

Nice hazing effect

Adds great depth to otherwise mediocre scenes

I've seen this effect used before, but I had never used it myself. Level 1 was about perfect for my needs and I'm not sure who would ever need 2 or even 3.

I've been using this filter on a Minolta 50mm lens with outstanding results. The closest parallel in "digital land" to what the filter does would be VSCO Cam's fade filter, although it's not the same. Very satisfied with the build and the threading. No complaints on the grip when putting it on or taking it off either. It fits all my lens caps without issue as well.
